The Visit is my second jazz CD, and features an all star band of west coast musicians. Paul McCandless toured and recorded extensively with Bela Fleck, and founded the ground breaking group Oregon with Ralph Towner. Zakir Hussain is the acknowledged master of the Tabla, as well as founder of Shakti with John McLaughlin. Will Kennedy was drummer with the Grammy-winning Yellow Jackets, and Karl Perazzo has toured & recorded numerous albums with Carlos Santana, including Milagro, and Sacred Fire. Darol Anger founded the innovative Turtle Island String Quartet, and Mike Marshall the Modern Mandolin Quartet. Ronu Majumdar’s first solo CD was produced by Ry Cooder.
“The Visit brings together a stellar and eclectic collection of the Bay area’s finest jazzers for far-ranging aural expeditions – from Oregon-like world fusion jazz with reed player Paul McCandless to taut cosmopolitan funk with violinist Darol Anger and tabla master Zakir Hussain. Jazz pianist Jack Perla’s genius is composition. With broad swaths of color detailed by many fine strokes, he crafts pieces of glittering beauty, melodies that sneak into a listener’s consciousness and deeply insinuate themselves with each iteration or variation.”
